Coaching
and Mentoring
Coaching
and Mentoring can be very
powerful, and cost effective, methods of learning new skills and knowledge
and of facilitating behaviour change.
The two terms are often used interchangeably, but there are differences,
as follows:
- Coaching: Coaching
is a ‘real world’ workplace solution which involves continuous
one-to-one feedback and guidance from a manager, colleague or independent
coach, using day-to-day work as a learning experience. Alternatively,
coaching may be used for a one-off, short term situation such as to
bed in a new skill or enhance a current one.
- Mentoring: Mentoring
is a deliberate pairing of a more senior and experienced person (mentor)
with a more inexperienced person (mentee), outside the normal line management
relationship, with the objective of facilitating the development of
the mentee within a supportive framework. Mentors usually come from
inside the organisation.
We provide a broad range of services
in this area. For example, we assist organisations with the introduction
of Coaching and Mentoring programmes, including training managers in coaching
and mentoring skills. We also act as external Coaches for individual one-to-one
programmes to achieve agreed business objectives.
